The3Point Foundation operates a four week summer program during July and August at the Fessenden School in West Newton. All of the courses are taught by experienced Fessenden faculty and are designed to strengthen the foundations of language and math and encourage exploration and interactive learning. The academic day is divided between math and language arts and starts at 9:00 am and concludes at 3:30 pm. The math program includes arithmetic in small groups with individualized attention. The math program also includes games, word problems, applied math and interactive math problems. The language arts program focuses on reading (decoding and comprehension); writing (creative, expository and mechanics); grammar and spelling. The lunch period is followed by swimming lessons at the Fessenden pool. At 3:30 pm, when the academic day is over, the boys practice and play basketball on the Fessenden varsity court. The practices are conducted by local high school and college coaches who take advantage of the teaching opportunities which playing basketball provides. The CAB Academy focuses on 5th to 8th graders. Starting in the summer of 2015, CAB Academy will open a second location on the UMass Boston campus for those Boston Public School students who have participated in The3PointFoundation programs offered in the Boston Public Schools.
