Reggie Lewis After School

The3PointFoundation holds an afterschool program at the Reggie Lewis Center for the boys who have participated in C.A.B. Academy at the Fessenden School.  These boys travel to the Reggie Lewis Center from a variety of Boston public middle schools.  Academic classes run on Thursdays from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturdays 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.  Each academic class is followed by a one hour basketball program.

The Thursday class provides homework help, teaches study skills and offers assistance to the boys in preparing for school tests.  Additionally, the Thursday program emphasizes mathematics, focusing on problem solving and other skills tied to the Common Core Standards.  On Saturdays, the curriculum focuses on language arts including reading, reading comprehension, creative writing, oral presentations and grammar.  The Reggie Lewis Program emphasizes character development along with academics and uses basketball to teach about the qualities necessary for success in school and life.  Members of the Boston basketball community regularly visit to speak with the boys sharing their own life stories emphasizing the importance of character.

The afterschool program also provides enrichment opportunities with visits to the Museum of Fine Arts where our students visit different galleries and work on imaginative art projects.  Our boys also visit a number of colleges including UMass Boston, Boston University, Boston College and Tufts.  At these schools, our students watch basketball practice and visit with coaches and players.

With the support of Roche Bros., during the year, we also run programs where our students and their families help those less fortunate than themselves by making sandwiches and distributing them to the needy in the local community.
